Pure off the Road organises a special small-scale group trip a few times a year (max. 8 persons). The first trip in 2020 will go to the as yet unknown South Angola. This East African country is home to many authentic tribal peoples (about 17), who maintain their centuries-old culture. Angola was isolated and inaccessible for a long time due to various conflicts, but has been stable for several years and is therefore a new travel destination. This trip has been put together with a travel agent who is also an anthropologist and therefore has a lot of knowledge of these very special tribal peoples.
Angola has been transformed into a new country after the devastating civil war of 1975-2002. Since 2008 Angola has been open for tourism again and there is stability. The country has a lot to offer: some of Africa’s most spectacular tribal peoples, stunning landscapes and a rich colonial legacy from Portuguese rule. Angola is still very unspoiled, authentic and unique. This journey focuses on getting to know and interact with tribal peoples, interspersed with nature and cultural elements.
The tribes of Angola are concentrated in three provinces in the southwest of the country: Huila, Namibe and Cunene. There are three factors why these populations have retained their authenticity:
- They live in a remote area, in desert or semi-desert.
- There were closed policies/prohibited areas (1933-1974), during the Portuguese colonization.
- The civil war (1975-2002).

- Visiting and camping at the various unique tribal populations, such as the Muila, Mucabal, Himba and the Nguendelengo who live in the valley of the Leba mountains.
- Get acquainted with the pure beauty of traditional costumes, hair and bead costumes.
- Car trip over the Leba pass with beautiful, wide views.
- Visit to the colonial cities of Lubango and Namibe, with attention to art deco architecture.
- Visit to the colourful weekly market Mukuma.
- Stops at the Hungeria waterfalls, the baobab trees of Xangongo, the Cunene river.
