Venezuela is not the most common travel destination because of all the political unrest, but in terms of nature and unspoilt nature it has much to offer. Henk visited Latin America in 2017 and came across Los Roques, an island archipelago with pearly white beaches, which attracts only 50,000 (mainly Venezuelan) visitors annually and lies 160 kilometres north of the coast of Caracas.

The archipelago consists of about 350 islands, of which Gran Roque is the only one inhabited. Approximately 150 families live there. Los Roques is known for its incredible crystal-clear water in various shades of blue and with its 225,000 hectares forms the largest naval park in the Caribbean. By the way, there are mangrove marshes where many life flourishes as well as untouched corals. A unique ecosystem.
